Sophie + Bump
A golden hour maternity shoot for Sophie on Super 8 film.
When Sophie, a fellow photographer, put out a call looking for someone to capture a maternity shoot, I suggested trying something a little different, a short film on Super 8. She was very excited by this idea, so we arranged to meet one July evening.
We got super lucky with the weather, it was and lovely warm and the light was beautiful, soft and golden, the kind that makes everything feel a little slower. We kept things relaxed, trying out a few simple ideas, and even persuaded dad-to-be (who wasn’t all that keen on being on film) to step in for a couple of moments. Those small interactions ended up being some of my favourites.
I love the results nostalgic, a little grainy and imperfect in all the best ways. This shoot was really for Sophie, a way to mark this important moment in her life, her amazing body and the beauty of motherhood.
I’d love to do more maternity films on Super 8. If you’re planning a maternity shoot and love the idea of something relaxed, nostalgic and a little bit different, I’d love to chat about creating a Super 8 maternity film for you.
